Could we transfer the accumulated merit of all
our good deeds, thoughts, and aspirations
towards the healing of our dearest one?
Still, that may be too easy. Could we honestly
transfer the merit from such effort towards
the benefit of our most intractable foe?
That’s why we came here, for that very purpose:
to discover exactly what we are made of,
what kind of being we truly are.
Is the “other” not also ourselves, just dressed up
in a different costume — is that so hard to see?
This is the story — maybe they have just wasted
our time, maybe stole our car radio, or maybe
violently enslaved our whole race.
How are we going to react?
Yes, love is easy in a realm of only love,
but what about in these darker lokas
of fear, ignorance, greed and hate?
We were willing to lay it all on the line,
so here we are to test ourselves, to see
whether or not our love is real.
Having tasted sufficiently of this world,
then perhaps we can ask ourselves:
“Is this really love, or am I
still just dreaming?”
