Today’s Writer

After the first cup of coffee
the blank page became an invitation
rather than a forbidding barrier

Once he had passed through the portal
there were so many possibilities
he switched over to decaf

He put on some music, it was lovely
outside, the day was brightening
he liked the way the light changed

There is really nothing to say
he got up from the desk
went outside

Maybe he would write something
later, maybe not, he didn’t know
today, for once, he didn’t care

His memory of things eluded him
likewise, any reason for complaint
everything is just as it is, was, will be

This might be his last day
for all he knew, it could be
either way, today, it’s all OK
