The Beautiful Babies

At first we were naturally happy,
amazed at just being alive.

Then they told us about religion,
they taught us to be afraid.

What kind of wicked world was this —
a tricky trap set to snap us in half?

An angry god was waiting for us to fail
so we could be sent to a fiery hell.

One day the angry god had a bearded son
who fell to the earth and spoke of love.

The world would kill that loving son,
but soon enough he rose from his grave
and flew away into the sky, so now we hunt
for easter eggs, and devour chocolate rabbits.

Yes, it’s all as clear as a ringing bell –
the bombs we drop are like easter eggs,
let’s cover the earth in chocolate sauce,
then the angry god will bless the herd,
and send them all to the fiery hell.

The beautiful babies will laugh and cry,
amazed like us at just being alive!

They’ll praise the god who gifted them
with his only tragically begotten son,
and the exploding multicolored eggs
will bring death that tastes like chocolate.
