Singing In the Dream

Last night you dreamed that Neti, our pet canary, climbed onto your finger, then hopped up to your shoulder, and the two of you could walk around, even outside, and he stayed close to you, because the friendship had now grown beyond itself, becoming an intimacy that even permeated your happy dreams at night.

Now you were no longer owner and pet, but something far more brilliant, something that really needs to happen all around the world today, because there is no other option that will save us from walls we’ve built, the ones which sever us from the Love God in our hearts.

When I awoke, I had the vision: Neti, our pet canary, had climbed onto your finger, then hopped up to your shoulder, and the two of you could walk around, even outside, and he stayed close to you, because the friendship had now grown beyond itself, becoming an intimacy that will save us from walls we’ve built, the ones which sever us from the Love God in our hearts.

When you shared your dream with me, I told you of my vision. In the glad contagion of our happiness, Neti launched forth in an extended series of trills and rolling notes that made the day outside his window even brighter, so bright that he had to just pour out everything he had. This made us very happy, because we are alive together, all of us, and there is a song we carry in our hearts that now can flood the whole world with its exquisite harmonies.

Whether we have wings or not, there is something within us that wants to fly high above the walls, to soar majestically through the great blue divinity that hovers over us and covers us when we fall down. Maybe in our dreams we fly, but even what we call “our waking life” is like a dream, though for most it seems so real.

We imagine we are separate from each other, divided by the walls we’ve built around ourselves because we are afraid. We are afraid, because in our restless waking dreams the Love God has not become real enough to climb onto our finger, then up to our shoulder, and sing and sing and sing.

    Dear Bob,

I am so happy that I found your blogs, hope it’s alright that I say so. This one makes me think a bit about shamanism. Love and blessings and all best, and looking forward to reading more.
