How It Goes

In the dream, some say:
“Keep your chin up.”

Others say:
“Keep your head down.”

I nod and shake my head
simultaneously — in this dream,
everything appears to be true.

I may be at Morning’s Gate
but to me it’s still the night.

What appears in the dark
can be a door to the light.

When I walk through that door
I’ll forget that it was ever there:

no door, no me, just light.

Nothing to open, nothing to close –

what stands between us is only us,
we’re made of light but dream
in the dark – isn’t that
how it goes?
